There are two variations of Omaha, Omaha High only and Omaha Hi/Lo split. It can be played with the betting being a structured Limit game or you can find No Limit and Pot Limit games.

Omaha Poker Game Rules:
The rules in this game are very similar to Texas Holdem, or Texas Hold’em.
Each player is dealt with four (instead of two) cards face down (“hole?).
Then 5 “community? cards are dealt on the table face up.
The players must make the highest hand combination using two of their four hole cards and the Five community cards.
Omaha is usually played in Hi/Lo variation, meaning the pot is split between the highest hand and the lowest hand.
If you do not have an 8 or lower among your four hole cards, you cannot qualify for low.

If Five or more cards 8 or lower do not end up in the community cards, there is no possibility for low. In that case, the pot will not be split (unless two hands will tie for high).

Aces are either low or high. Straights and flushes do not count for low.

Summary. Players are dealt one card at a time, betting after each card, alternately competing for high or low hand.Rules. After the ante, each player is dealt one card face down, which they can look at. For this first hand, players are competing for the highest card. To allow players to simultaneously indicate if they are going to compete for the pot, everyone secretly puts a coin in his or her hand to indicate they are competing or doesn’t to indicate they are not competing. Everyone puts their closed fist on the table and opens them at the same time. Players who did not compete risk nothing and gain nothing. Players who did compete swap their cards to determine who wins – the other players do not get to see the competing players’ cards. The player with the highest hand takes the pot. The competing players who lost have to match the pot. If there is a tie or no one stayed in, the pot carries over.

The dealer then deals one more card face down to each player, which everyone adds to his or her hands. This time players are competing for the lowest hand (just like in Low Ball). Again each player simultaneously indicates if they are competing by secretly placing a coin in their hand to indicate they are staying. Competing players again swap hands to determine the winner with the lowest hand taking the pot. Losing players match the pot – noncompeting players do nothing.After the third card, players compete for highest hand the same way. After the fourth card, players compete for lowest hand the same way. After the final card, there is a showdown (with everyone automatically competing). The highest hand takes the pot and the game is over.

Variants

As the rules are stated, if only a single player competes for a hand, he takes the pot and there is no pot for the next competition. There are a couple ways to remedy this situation.Ante every time. Before each card, every player antes. This insures that there is always money in the pot and can allow the pot to increase more quickly.Punishment. A Texas Hold’em poker game goes as follows:

Playing poker can seem like traveling to a different country. First of all it has its own language.  After a round of betting, one card is dealt face up in the middle for every player. So if five people are playing, five cards are dealt face up. The player who has the lowest hand showing gets to pick which card they want. Hands are ranked as in low ball with ties going to the player closest to the dealer’s left. After that, the next lowest hand chooses, and so on, until the highest hand takes the last card. Another round of betting is followed by another round of face up cards, with the lowest hand again choosing first. Players bet and there is a final round of face up cards that players choose from. After betting, everyone is dealt one more card face down (for a total of seven) followed by a final round of betting and showdown. The player with the best five card hand takes the pot.

Strategy. Strategy can be interesting, because it is often in a player’s best interest to choose a low card that will allow them to choose early in the next round. Matching one of your down cards often works well because you don’t have a pair showing, which would cause you to choose later in the next round. Straights and flushes can be chosen without your up cards beating other’s up cards. Of course, your selection may also be influenced by trying to prevent the next player from getting the card they want.
Variant
5 Card Stud. Players are dealt one card down and one card up. After betting, one card is dealt face up in the middle for each player, with the lowest hands choosing first as above. Players bet and choose twice more, for a total of five cards. Showdown follows the final round of betting.

Low Pairs – from seven-seven down. Play these very carefully as you could be setting yourself up for a loss. If in doubt then throw them away, but if you do manage to hold on look out for at least Three of a Kind or you are probably on a loser.

Vary your play – keep other players guessing throughout your game, don’t only RAISE pre-flop when you have a very strong hand, and don’t only FOLD when you are not in posession of good cards. If they can’t read your game then they won’t be able to follow a beginners pattern that will lead them to have an idea what you have.

BLUFF – Good players often pull off a major steal through good timing of BLUFFs. Use the player watching technique and bad FLOPs to go all out for a win – beginners will often be intimidated out of the hand, good players will be more difficult – but once you get a profile of their playing style you will be able to make this work.

Beginners beware! – Don’t rush your money away. All too often we see inexperienced players playing with hands that really should have been FOLDed before the FLOP. Don’t get caught out – use our tip to only play so many hands in every three or five hands.

In texas hold em poker, players compare five card hands against each other to determine who wins. A player with a flush has a better hand than a player with a straight, for example. The following list is from best to worst, so any hand on the list beats any hand below it and loses to any hand above it.

Royal Flush – An Ace-High straight of one suit.

Straight Flush – A straight of entirely one suit.

Four-of-a-Kind (Quads) – Four cards of the same rank.

Full House (Full Boat, Boat) – Three-of-a-kind and a pair. The example below would be called “Queens over Aces” or “Queens full of Aces”.

Flush – Five cards of the same suit.

Straight (Run) – Five cards of sequential rank. Note that in holdem, Aces can be high or low.
An example of a straight where the Ace is low:

Three-of-a-Kind (Trips, Set, Triplets) – Three cards of the same rank.

Two Pair – Two cards of the same rank and another two cards of the same rank. The example below would be called “Jacks and Twos”.

One Pair – Two cards of the same rank.

High Card – When you don’t have any of the above, your highest card determines your hand. The example below would be “King High” or “High card King”.

The person who is dealt last is regarded as the dealer and as such is marked with a dealer button. At the end of the hand the button is passed clockwise to the next player.

Most hands of poker begin by some form of forced betting. This is to ensure that there is action with every hand. Hold’em is played with two blinds (a bet before the pocket cards are received). The two players to the left of the dealer start with placing blind bets. The small blind is posted by the first player and the big blind by the second. The big blind is always the minimum bet at the table and the small blind is half. During a betting round, each player in turn takes one of the following actions:

When the blind bets are placed, the dealer gives out two cards to each player. The dealer deals clockwise. The two cards are called “hole cards” or “pocket cards”.

After this the players choose if they would like to make a bet. The person after the big blind starts. In the first round you cannot “Check”, but you can do any of the following: Bet, Call, Raise or Fold. All players shall put the same amount in for the game in order to continue. So if one player raises, the other players must either call or re-raise, or fold (drop out of the round).

Dealer turns three cards on the table – the Flop. These three cards are community cards and can be used in combination with the two hidden cards each player has in his/her hand.

The remaining players now start the second round of bidding. The first player to the left of the dealer starts the bidding round. The following actions can now be taken: Check, Bet/Raise, Call or Fold.

All players must put the same amount into the pot, or fold before the round has ended.

The same rules apply for both the bidding and the raising in each round from now on.

The dealer now displays the fourth community card on the table, so all players have six cards to play with. A round of betting now takes place.

The fifth and last community card on the table is displayed. A round of betting now takes place.

In all, five of the seven cards can be used. This means that each player can form the best possible five-card hand from their two hole cards and the five community cards on the table. You don’t even have to use any of your own cards if you don’t want to. You can “play the board” if the best hand is shown there. The remaining players now show their cards, and the winner is found. If a player shows his/her cards and you are not able to beat these cards, you choose yourself if you want to show your cards or not.
